Is an investment in holiday rentals a good idea?

Owning a second home as a holiday let can be rewarding personally and financially. With the obvious benefits of escaping city life and connection with loved ones, investment in a holiday rental can generate income, supplement savings in retirement or simply cover the costs of owning a second home.

To commemorate Habitat First Group’s 25th anniversary we launched a competition to find a new and unique sculpture for Silverlake last year. We are now delighted to see Nadine Collinson, winning sculpture, ‘To the Stars’ brought to life.
The competition was run in partnership with Sculpture by the Lakes with a brief that invited designs to be innovative and sustainable, celebrating Silverlake and its outstanding reputation for ecology.

All the designs were submitted to our judging panel that included: Red Paxton, director of Habitat First Group, British sculptor and creator of Sculpture by Lakes, Simon Gudgeon,  Paul Charles, CEO of travel consultancy The PC Agency and former BBC broadcaster Darren Northeast, Managing Director of Darren Northeast PR, one of the South’s leading PR agencies.

Having been inundated with creative and inspiring entries, our judging panel felt that the winning entry encapsulated everything that Silverlake represents. Congratulations to Nadine Collinson with her sculpture, entitled ‘To The Stars!’.

A beautiful and graceful interpretation of the energy and movement of flight, ‘To The Stars!’ pays homage to the connection between history and nature at Silverlake, but also marks the celebration of Habitat First Group’s 25th anniversary by including 25 secret stars embossed and hidden amongst the trails of the birds on the sculpture.

Upon the announcement, Nadine commented, “When I first saw the brief for the sculpture competition, I was totally inspired by Silverlake’s rich history as an RAF base, its logo depicting the Spitfire and the abundant ecology at this beautiful estate. I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of turning my design concept To the Stars! into a reality – a sculpture which will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Habitat First Group and will also pay homage to those who fought so bravely to secure our freedom.”
